Time to Perform – Using Your Voice

Time to perform! All eyes and ears will be on you, but you’ll be ready because you have picked, pictured, and practiced.

Here are some tips to help you through the best part of storytelling…the telling! We’ll start with your voice.

Voice

When telling a story, use your regular voice. Make it loud, make it soft. Sometimes the best voice is just a whisper. I like to whisper at certain parts of a scary story, then raise my voice at the scary part.

Sometimes the best voice is no voice at all. Pauses are very effective in a story. Your audience is anticipating what’s going to happen next and making predictions. Pauses are great right before a scary ending, a punch line, a humorous ending, a heartwarming moment, or just at the point when a lesson is being learned.

Now when you practice your story, focus on your voice and the impact it has when telling the story.
